PRP Facial Combo w/ Fraxel Laser

PRP with the Fraxel Laser for Skin Rejuvenation Will Leave You "GLOWING"

PRP and Fraxel Laser are powerful on their own, but together they offer a "powerhouse" treatment that will naturally transform and rejuvenate your appearance, while providing dramatic anti-aging results. The combination boosts your own collagen production and fibroblast proliferation increasing you skin's elasticity, texture and tone. Recover lost volume, diminish the appearance of fine lines, sun damage, skin pigmentation & acne scars. The addition of PRP (platelet rich plasma) after Fraxel Laser, not only accelerates the recovery process and adds nutrient rich growth factors that stimulate cells to generate newer, healthier tissue, it repairs aged existing tissue as well.

How is Our PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Facial/Fraxel Laser Combo Different From the Others?

We increase the potency of platelets and other growth factors by using a double-spin, high speed centrifugation process to concentrate the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) preparation which results in a more consistent superior cosmetic result. It is important to note that specific PRP preparation varies among healthcare providers which directly affects the quality of cosmetic results. Our patient's have said "the end result seems almost magical 🪄."

Why PRP with Fraxel Dual laser?

The combination of PRP/Fraxel Laser can yield a better result compared to using Fraxel or PRP alone. Facials that harvest and apply your own platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) became popular with cosmetic procedures because of their role in accelerating wound healing. Research in skin rejuvenation has proven PRP:

  • Accelerates Healing, by allowing the formation and release of growth factors and active proteins that promote healing.
  • Enhances Results, by boosting your own natural collagen & elastin production.
  • Reduces Redness and Swelling, the growth and anti-inflammatory factors reduce facial redness.
  • Improved Skin Quality, it is fact that combining PRP and Fraxel laser provides superior results for your skin rejuvenation.

The Fraxel Laser creates thousands of microscopic, invisible treatment zones, allowing openings for the PRP "growth factors" to penetrate the skin. There are NO holes, or needles used to inject the PRP, providing a uniform immersion of the PRP growth factors to the treatment area. This promotes excellent results, faster healing and reduces downtime compared to other traditional PRP application methods .

Can You Benefit From a PRP Facial/Fraxel Laser Combo?

So many advanced and innovative treatments are available to improve your skin, but how can you tell which treatment will most efficiently resurface and regenerate your complexion? Using Botox and dermal fillers can tackle some wrinkles and lost volume, but what about a treatment that actually replaces dull and damaged skin cells with new and healthy tissue? A Fraxel laser resurfacing treatment paired with PRP is the ultimate solution. You are effectively jump-starting your body's own natural rejuvenation systems, including collagen & elastin growth.

What To Expect?

This non-surgical treatment allows you to stimulate your body’s own natural repair and rejuvenation processes. On the day of your visit we apply a thin layer of numbing cream to the treatment area. While you are numbing we draw a small amount of blood to use for the PRP. The centrifuge process takes approximately 20-25 minutes. After 30 minutes the numbing cream is removed. Dr. Robinson treats the area using the Fraxel Laser. Once the Fraxel treatment is complete your PRP (platelet rich plasma) is gently applied over the treatment area.

How Long Do the PRP Facial/Fraxel Laser Combo Results Last?

Both Fraxel Laser and PRP have long-lasting benefits. By stimulating one's own collagen & elastin production, PRP and Fraxel yields wonderful results within a few days that may last years.

Skin Tone

Just like a precious piece of jewlery or a beautiful piece of furniture, the skin can become dull, weathered and aged. With the modern age of dermatology one can restore the brightness, alleviate lines, get rid of dark marks, erase broken capillaries and scars with no social downtime and superior cosmetic results.

Cosmetic Consultation Reimbursement policy offered to all patients. Schedule an office visit to discuss your concerns and skincare goals with Dr. Robinson and the office visit cost will be applied to the future cost for the "consulted procedure". The "consulted procedure" must be completed within 30 days of your consult visit.

Age Spots | Solar Lentigo| Sun Spots

Age spots are small, flat dark areas on the skin. They vary in size and usually appear on areas exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, shoulders and arms. Age spots are also called sunspots, liver spots and solar lentigines.

Age spots can look like cancerous growths. True age spots don't need treatment, but they are a sign the skin has received a lot of sun exposure and are an attempt by your skin to protect itself from more sun damage. You can help prevent age spots by regularly using sunscreen and avoiding the sun.

Symptoms

Age spots may affect people of all skin types, but they're more common in adults with light skin. Unlike freckles, which are common in children and fade with no sun exposure, age spots don't fade.

Age spots:

  • Are flat, oval areas of increased pigmentation
  • Are usually tan to dark brown
  • Occur on skin that has had the most sun exposure over the years, such as the backs of hands, tops of feet, face, shoulders and upper back
  • Range from freckle size to about 1/2 inch (13 millimeters) across
  • Can group together, making them more noticeable

When To See a Doctor

Age spots don't require medical care. Have your doctor look at spots that are black or have changed in appearance. These changes can be signs of melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer.

It's best to have any new skin changes evaluated by a doctor, especially if a spot:

  • Is black
  • Is increasing in size
  • Has an irregular border
  • Has an unusual combination of colors
  • Is bleeding

Causes

Age spots are caused by overactive pigment cells. Ultraviolet (UV) light speeds up the production of melanin, a natural pigment that gives skin its color. On skin that has had years of sun exposure, age spots appear when melanin becomes clumped or is produced in high concentrations.

Use of commercial tanning lamps and beds also can cause age spots.

Prevention

To help avoid age spots and new spots after treatment, follow these tips for limiting your sun exposure:

  • Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Because the sun's rays are most intense during this time, try to schedule outdoor activities for other times of the day.
  • Use sunscreen. Fifteen to 30 minutes before going outdoors, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Apply sunscreen generously, and reapply every two hours — or more often if you're swimming or perspiring.
  • Cover up. For protection from the sun, wear tightly woven clothing that covers your arms and legs and a broad-brimmed hat, which provides more protection than does a baseball cap or golf visor.Consider wearing clothing designed to provide sun protection. Look for clothes labeled with an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of 40 to 50 to get the best protection.

If you are tired of looking older or want the spots removed, schedule a laser consultation and restore your skin to its natural beauty. Our Cosmetic Consultation Reimbursement policy is offered to all patients. Schedule an office visit to discuss your concerns and skincare goals with Dr. Robinson and the office visit cost will be applied to the future cost for the "consulted procedure". The "consulted procedure" must be completed within 30 days of your consult visit.

Acne, Acne Scars and Acne Surgery

Acne is a skin condition which has plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), inflamed pimples (pustules), and deeper lumps (nodules). Acne occurs on the face, as well as the neck, chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms. Although most teenagers get some form of acne, adults in their 20's, 30's, 40's, or even older, can develop acne. Often, acne clears up after several years, even without treatment. Acne can be disfiguring and upsetting to the patient. Untreated acne can leave permanent scars; these may be treated by your dermatologist in the future. To avoid acne scarring, treating acne is important.

Types of Acne and How Acne Forms

Acne is not caused by dirt. Testosterone, a hormone which is present in both males and females, increases during adolescence (puberty). It stimulates the sebaceous glands of the skin to enlarge, produce oil, and plug the pores. Whiteheads (closed comedones), blackheads (open comedones), and pimples (pustules) are present in teenage acne.

Early acne occurs before the first period and is called prepubertal acne. When acne is severe and forms deep "pus-filled" lumps, it is called cystic acne. This may be more common in males. Adult acne develops later in life and may be related to hormones, childbirth, menopause, or stopping the pill. Adult women may be treated at the period and at ovulation when acne is especially severe, or throughout the entire cycle. Adult acne is not rosacea, a disease in which blackheads and whiteheads do not occur.

Cleansing

Acne has nothing to do with not washing your face. However, it is best to wash your face with a mild cleanser and warm water daily. Washing too often or too vigorously may actually make your acne worse.

Diet

Acne is not caused by foods. However, if certain foods seem to make your acne worse, try to avoid them.

Cosmetics

Wear as little cosmetics as possible. Oil-free, water-based moisturizers and make-up should be used. Choose products that are "non-comedogenic" (should not cause whiteheads or blackheads) or "non-acnegenic" (should not cause acne). Remove your cosmetics every night with mild soap or gentle cleanser and water.

A flesh-tinted acne lotion containing acne medications can safely hide blemishes. Loose powder in combination with an oil-free foundation is also good for cover-up.
Shield your face when applying sprays and gels on your hair.

Treatments

Control of acne is an ongoing process. All acne treatments work by preventing new acne breakouts. Existing blemishes must heal on their own, and therefore, improvement takes time. If your acne has not improved within two to three months, your treatment may need to be changed. The treatment your dermatologist recommends will vary according to the type of acne.

Occasionally, an acne-like rash can be due to another cause such as make-up or lotions, or from oral medication. It is important to help your dermatologist by providing an updated history of what you are using on your skin or taking internally.
Many non-prescription acne lotions and creams help mild cases of acne. However, many will also make your skin dry. Follow instructions carefully.

Topicals

  • Your dermatologist may prescribe topical creams, gels, or lotions with vitamin A acid-like drugs, benzoyl peroxide, or antibiotics to help unblock the pores and reduce bacteria. These products may cause some drying and peeling. Your dermatologist will advise you about correct usage and how to handle side effects.
  • Before starting any medication, even topical medications, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you are trying to get pregnant.

Special Treatments

  • Acne surgery may be used by your dermatologist to remove blackheads and whiteheads. Do not pick, scratch, pop, or squeeze pimples yourself. When the pimples are squeezed, more redness, swelling, inflammation, and scarring may result.
  • Microdermabrasion may be used to remove the upper layers of the skin improving irregularities in the surface, contour, and generating new skin.
  • Light chemical peels with salicylic acid or glycolic acid help to unblock the pores, open the blackheads and whiteheads, and stimulate new skin growth.
  • Injections of corticosteroids may be used for treating large red bumps (nodules). This may help them go away quickly.

Recovery After V-Beam Laser Treatment

You should avoid saunas, hot tubs, and other forms of excessive heat for 48 hours after treatment.  For the first two weeks avoid skincare products that may clog your pores or cause skin irritation. As with all skin treatments, it is critical to use a SPF 30 or higher sunscreen every time you go outdoors.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser therapy is one of the most exciting treatments for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. Today’s sophisticated laser technology allows us to achieve excellent, consistent results, without the risk and extended downtime.

How does laser skin resurfacing work?

Laser energy can be used to target both damaged skin at the surface, as well as aging collagen in the deeper layers of skin. The effect of this treatment is two-fold: first, you’ll see an immediate improvement in skin texture at the superficial level. As the skin heals, the treated area will be resurfaced with the growth of new, fresh skin cells, resulting in smoother, healthier-looking skin. Second, the laser energy also works to improve skin beneath the surface by stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms and encouraging the production of new collagen and elastin in the coming months.* Found in abundance in young, healthy skin, collagen and elastin provide natural skin firmness and elasticity.

Laser skin resurfacing can improve skin texture and tone, reduce wrinkles and acne scarring, and promote healthier-looking, more vibrant skin. This treatment is excellent for acne scarring as well as sun damaged or aged wrinkled skin. The laser vaporizes the damaged skin and commences the regeneration of fresh skin during the natural healing process. The thermal heating of the deep tissue stimulates new skin growth, promoting a healthy new collagen growth. This is usually accompanied by a week of healing time.

Can laser skin resurfacing be combined with other procedures?

Absolutely.  With a full range of state-of-the-art laser technology at his fingertips, Dr. Robinson can recommend the best treatment or combination of treatments to meet your skin rejuvenation needs.  Our HydraFacial MD signature treatment — is a godsend one - two weeks post Fraxel speeds up the shedding process that re-surfacing procedures inevitably induce while deeply hydrating the skin. Once healing is done, it is important to stay out of the sun as much as possible in order to maintain the results. The use of sunscreens, Retinol and skin brightening products will help keep hyperpigmentation at bay. In addition, Dr. Robinson often combines laser rejuvenation with BOTOX® injections and various fillers for maximum cosmetic improvement.

Patients may also take advantage of the unique arsenal of State of the Art Lasers @ The Dermatology Practice of Bruce P. Robinson of NYC.  This allows us to combine laser treatments and surgical procedures for the most outstanding results, while minimizing patient discomfort and downtime.  For example, patients may choose full facial resurfacing together with Warm Body Contouring.

Before and After Images

Chemical Peels

Men and women alike share a common desire to have healthy, youthful skin. Exposure to the sun and the elements in combination with adverse living habits contribute to the appearance of our skin. Chemical Peels are increasingly popular with those who are unhappy about acne scarring, sun-damaged skin, age spots, freckles, fine lines, rough skin and uneven pigmentation. A chemical peel is not limited to the face, and can be performed on the neck, chest, hands, arms, shoulders and leg with little or no downtime.

Refreshed & Rejuvenated Skin

"All my life I had freckles on my face. Having a Chemical Peel changed that! Now my skin is smooth and clear!"

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical Peels are topically applied acids that aid in the restoration and rejuvenation of the skin's surface. They usually create an invisible uniform and controlled shedding of several layers of the skin. Depending on the nature and depth of the peel, a significant number of layers can be exfoliated allowing new growth to be exposed, creating a fresh vibrant appearance.

Who are candidates?

Your skin type and the results you are aspiring to achieve will determine if you are a candidate, as well as which class of peel is most appropriate for you.

What are the benefits of a Chemical peel?

Chemical peels can enhance your appearance by reducing blotchy and uneven pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, freckling, age spots, sun-damaged skin, and acne scars in a relatively brief measure of time. Chemical peels accelerate the production of new cells. Enjoy fresh smooth skin immediately after your first treatment.

What are the side effects?

Chemical peels have become increasingly popular because of the array of advantages and relative lack of complications, Side effects are rare and usually temporary. Some side effects include uneven pigmentation, redness, and very infrequent scarring if the skin is not cared for appropriately. Sun protection is crucial to minimize the risk of side effects. A treatment program of individually suited products and sun protection will benefit your skin's ability to maintain the results of the peel. You can decrease the likelihood of side effects by carefully following your post peel instructions.

Types of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are classified as superficial, medium, and deep peels.

Superficial Peel

This peel is designed to help smoothen coarse, dry skin, improve the texture of sun-damaged skin, and even out skin tone. The recovery is generally rapid and usually involves some minor flaking. A series of treatments is ordinarily recommended to obtain the desired result over a period of time. Typically, there is no down time and with appropriate sun protection, you can resume regular activities immediately.

Medium Peel

Medium peels contain a stronger potency of acids. Medium peels target the epidermis and upper dermis and cause the skin to slough within 5 - 7 days. Immediately after treatment the skin has a red appearance and is occasionally accompanied by swelling. Within a day the skin turns brown in color and after 3 or 4 days the skin initiates the peeling process.

Deep Peels

Deep peels produce the most dramatic results. This peel is recommended for treating wrinkles, scars, blemishes and, in some cases, precancerous skin lesions. A deep peel targets the dermis. In some cases, anesthesia is required during the procedure to reduce the warm to hot stinging sensation. After a deep peel, the skin is red and can result in some swelling and blistering. A crust may form and the skin will turn brown just prior to peeling. Many layers of the skin will peel over a period of one to two weeks. An ointment may be given to keep the area moist. Temporarily, the new skin will have the color and sensation of significant sunburn, which will gradually fade to your normal skin color.

Fraxel Laser

The Fraxel® DUAL Laser system has the unique advantage of two treatment modes/wave lengths in one Laser which is an improvement from the original single mode Fraxel® Laser system. Fraxel® DUAL laser can treat a broad range of skin damage, such as age spots, sun spots, wrinkles and other signs of aging. The laser treats only a fraction of the skin tissue at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes rapid healing. This stimulates your body’s own natural healing process replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.

Fraxel DUAL Laser Modes/Wave Lengths:

  • The 1550 wave length: penetrates deep into the skin layers, specifically targeting concerns such as wrinkles or acne scarring.
  • The 1927 wave length: effectively targets tone, texture and other more superficial signs of aging

This non-surgical procedure will be tailored to your desired outcome. You can enjoy the full benefits of both/or one mode/wave length. The Fraxel® DUAL Laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched to enable rapid healing. This stimulates your body's own natural healing process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin. The result is more youthful, radiant skin with minimal down time. Any area of the body can be treated: face, chest, neck and hands. Fraxel Laser protects against skin cancer while making your skin look young again.

How Can Fraxel Dual Laser Make Your Skin More Resistant To Skin Cancer?

New research has shown that, in addition to repairing your skin, Fraxel can actually help you defend  against skin cancer while making your skin look young again.  Fraxel triggers the healing process, producing collagen which will revitalize your skin with a smoother, younger look, but it also makes use of the older cells of your skin to produce substances that are protective against skin cancer.

How long is the treatment

Depending on the size, location and condition of the area to be treated, a Fraxel treatment can take anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours.

Dr. Robinson is improving skin cancer treatments with less invasive treatments. No scarring, no bleeding, functional & cosmetic results are superior to cold steel excision & MOHS. Patients on anticoagulant therapy do not have to stop their medication before treatment, therefore not increasing their risk for stroke and/or heart attack, quick healing, & no risk of post-operative complications! This is especially helpful with Infirm or older patients, great for professionals who can't afford downtime or a scar.

Fraxel Laser offers a Gentle Approach to Treating Pre-Cancerous Growths and Overall Healthier Skin.

Skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer in the United States. More than 3 million Americans are diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer(s), such as basal cell & squamous cell carcinoma each year. These two types of cancers are collectively known as keratinocyte carcinoma or (KC).

In individuals with a history of a prior KC, the risk of developing subsequent KC remains a significant concern.

In our study using non-ablative fractional laser therapy, including 4 sessions spaced at 2-4 week intervals, w/ follow-up assessments, 1-3 months after the final treatment session 60% had greater reduction of the development of KC and had improved overall health of sun-damaged skin. There was also a lower recurrence rate of MOHS. Lowering the rate of infection directly related to lack of having an open wound.

Fraxel has already demonstrated remarkable success with minimal downtime & discomfort as a gentle yet effective treatment of actinic keratosis (AK), the most common type of pre-cancerous skin conditions. Other benefits to FRAXEL Laser is it's ability @ ameliorating photo damage, utilizing precise photothermolysis to stimulate collagen and elastin production, promote dermal wound healing & decreasing and improving hyperpigmentation, telangiectasias, skin tone, skin laxity, and tactile roughness. Now we can add treatment of certain skin cancers to the list.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment. Prior to the procedure we will apply a topical anesthetic cream, which helps minimize any discomfort during treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed depends on your goals and constraints. Typically, patients require between 2 - 6 treatments.

What skin types and what parts of the body can be treated?

Fraxel lasers can treat women and men of all ages and skin colors. Any area of the body can be treated: face, arms, legs, back. abdomen and buttocks. Fraxel treatments also work on delicate skin areas like the neck, chest and hands.

What kind of results can I expect?

Your skin will feel softer, look brighter and improve skin tone. Other benefits of treatment include: reducing the appearance of acne scaring, treatment of actinic keratosis, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, smoother, fresher, younger looking skin, improved tone and texture, erase unwanted brown spots, age spots & melasma.

When do the results appear, and how long do they last?

There are both immediate and progressive results. Soon after the treatment, the surface of your skin will feel softer, look brighter and show improved tone & texture. The next 3 to 6 months will bring additional improvement as the deeper layers of the skin continue to heal. Results can last for several years depending on your age and skin condition.

What will I look like immediately after the procedure? Can I go right back to work?

You will experience redness and/or swelling resembling a bad sunburn after the procedure that diminishes over the next 3-4 days. The evening after your treatment, your face will feel hot, applying cool compresses will provide comfort. We recommend using the prescribed ointments after treatment during the healing process. Usually by days 4-5 you will begin to peel, revealing smoother, younger looking skin. Total downtime is usually 5-7 days. Dr. Robinson will work with you to determine the best option within your lifestyle and work constraints.

Post Fraxel Treatment

HydraFacial MD is a godsend one week post Fraxel to speed up the shedding process that re-surfacing procedures inevitably induce while deeply hydrating the skin. Once healing is done, it is important to stay out of the sun as much as possible in order to maintain the results. The use of sunscreens, Retinol and skin brightening products will help keep hyperpigmentation at bay.

Can I get a Fraxel treatment if I already had other procedures?

Fraxel Laser compliments other cosmetic procedures, such as dermal fillers, Botox & TempSure Envi.

Our Cosmetic Consultation Reimbursement policy is offered to all patients. Come discuss your needs and goals with Dr. Robinson and the office visit cost will be applied to future costs for the discussed procedure.  *Procedure must be completed within 30 days of your consult visit.

Acne Treatments

Control of acne is an ongoing process given that acne can be a chronic problem. All acne treatments work to reduce current acne pimples but work better at preventing new acne breakouts. Acne treatments usually take 6 to 12 weeks to become fully effective. During that time existing blemishes may take time to heal and you may experience temporary worsening before improvement. Chemical peels and laser treatments can speed the time to improvement and often help clear pigmentation and scars. . Your treatment will vary according to the type of acne i.e. acne cysts, pustules, whiteheads or blackheads.

Occasionally, an acne-like rash can be due to another cause such as make-up or lotions, or from oral medication. It is important to help Dr. Robinson by providing an updated history of what you are using on your skin or taking internally. Many non-prescription acne lotions and creams help mild cases of acne. However, many will also make your skin dry. Follow instructions carefully.

Topicals

  • Dr. Robinson may prescribe topical creams, gels, lotions with vitamin A acid-like drugs, benzoyl peroxide, or antibiotics to help unblock the pores and reduce bacteria. These products may cause some drying and peeling. They will advise you about correct usage and how to handle side effects.
  • Before starting any medication, even topical medications, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you are trying to get pregnant.

Special Treatments

  • Acne surgery may be used by Dr. Robinson to remove blackheads and whiteheads. Do not pick, scratch, pop, or squeeze pimples yourself. When the pimples are squeezed, more redness, swelling, inflammation, pigmentation and scarring may result.
  • Lasers and microdermabrasion may be used to remove the upper layers of the skin improving irregularities in the surface, contour, and generating new skin.
  • Light chemical peels with salicylic acid or glycolic acid help to unblock the pores, open the blackheads and whiteheads, stimulate new skin growth and improve pigmentation (dark spots).
  • Injections of corticosteroids may be used for treating large red bumps (acne cysts). This may help them go away quickly and prevent scarring.

Oral

  • Antibiotics taken by mouth such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or erythromycin are often prescribed for acne cyst or painful acne pimples.

Birth Control Pills

  • Birth control pills may significantly improve acne, and may be used specifically for the treatment of acne. It is also important to know that oral antibiotics may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills. This is uncommon, but possible, especially if you notice break-through bleeding. As a precautionary measure use a second form of birth control.

Other Treatments

  • In cases of unresponsive or severe acne, Accutane (isotretinoin) may be used. Patients using isotretinoin must understand the side effects of this drug. Monitoring with frequent follow-up visits is necessary. Pregnancy must be prevented while taking the medication, since the drug causes birth defects.
  • Women may also use female hormones or medications that decrease the effects of male hormones to help their acne.
  • Laser, microdermabrasion and chemical peels can be helpful in treating acne as well.

Dr. Robinson will evaluate your ance and suggest the best treatment regimes considering your age, sex, and the type of acne you have.
